Data Repository

A data repository provides a storage location for digital information within an organization. A data repository may come in the form of a physical storage device, such as a hard drive, or virtual storage service, such as AWS S3 buckets. When managed as part of a well-designed data governance plan, repositories provide a safe, organized and efficient place to store and retrieve data. In today's DevOps-driven cloud-first IT landscape, it's common for IT teams to deploy unmanaged data repositories outside of formal governance processes, introducing risk.
