Data-in-motion
Data-in-motion describes information that is being transferred or moved from one location to another over a network. Data-in-motion may include logs being written by an application to a cloud repository, customer information being read from a database as part of a transaction, or media being downloaded from a streaming service. Regardless of the type of data, data-in-motion may be exposed to unauthorized disclosure as it traverses the network. Sensitive data-in-motion should be protected with proper use of network segmentation to limit access, as well as network encryption techniques such as TLS, SSH, or VPNs.
