Open Raven Platform Release: New Multi-Cloud Capabilities, Classifying Biometric Data
Who doesn't love Spring? After enduring months of cold temperatures, snow, and cloudy skies, April brings the start of Spring. Team Open Raven pushed hard through the winter months, and our April release embodies what we love about Spring - fresh new features. Specifically, we released support for Google Cloud Platform and a slew of multi-cloud UI enhancements and fresh dataclasses.
New Multi-Cloud Capabilities - Support for Google Cloud Platform
Visibility is essential for effective security. You can't secure what you can't see. Running your business on multiple cloud provider platforms only amplifies both the need and the complexity. With support for Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Open Raven extends its secure and private architecture, touchless scanning capabilities, policies, rules, and integrations – simplifying multi-cloud data security and saving critical time and effort.
Getting started with the Open Raven Data Security Platform on GCP is easy. Setup can be automated with Terraform or performed using a creation wizard inside of Google Cloud Shell. During setup, an Open Raven project will be created in your Google Cloud organization. Existing features, including recent releases such as metadata scanning, composite data classes, and customizable data previews, all work seamlessly with GCP scanning and data findings. UI enhancements include updates to Map, Assets, Data Catalog, Scans, and Policy Violations views.
Dataclass Expansion - Identifying Biometric Data
Continuing our theme of fresh and new, we've added support for biometric data in the ISO/IEC standard CBEFF format. As our smartphones, computers, and other digital devices adopt fingerprinting and facial recognition as a means of authentication and identification, biometric data is being processed and stored by more parties than ever before. We believe that securing biometric data is crucial for both security and privacy reasons: leaked fingerprints or facial images can be used to gain unauthorized access to systems, and since biometrics are permanently linked to an individual (you can change your password, but you can't change your fingerprints), they are difficult to impossible to recover from. Open Raven can now detect biometric data in our customer's cloud environments and provide early warnings about potential exposure before breaches happen.
